Rainbow Photonics is a company specializing in the development and manufacture of equipment for operation in the THz region of the spectrum.
The company was founded in 1997 as a subsidiary of the Laboratory of Nonlinear Optics of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology ETH Zurich. Currently, Rainbow Photonics Ltd. - is the first Swiss company to offer THz technology. It is one of the leaders in the development of broadband THz emitters. Thanks to close cooperation with the Institute of Technology, super-compact fiber lasers, nonlinear crystals such as DAST, DSTMS, OH1 have been put into series production since 2003.

Tunable narrowband terahertz source with a tuning range of 1.5 to 20 THz and a bandwidth of less than 100 GHz. The basic TeraTune model is based on a pulsed lamp-pumped laser (50-200 Hz repetition rate) and a special optical parametric oscillator (OPO) in which a single wavelength is electronically tuned so that the bandwidth is less than 100 GHz.

KNbO3 crystal is a promising material for nonlinear-optical interaction of optical and THz waves, due to theits wide transmission range of 0.4-4.5 μm, high nonlinearity coefficient d33 = 27.5 cm-1 and relatively high optical damage threshold of 350 MW/cm2.
